Urban Art DXB To Draw In A New Era For Regional Street Art
Following a record-breaking show earlier this year, World Art Dubai – the region’s only accessible art fair – is kicking off the season ahead of its April 2020 return, by launching the Urban Art DXB event, in partnership with Rove Hotels from 28-30 November.
The new street art concept is a weekend-long, free-to-attend show curated by Vandalist Art, the famous street art gallery from London and the winner of ‘Best Gallery Award’ at World Art Dubai 2019.
The hip new affair will feature art from the hottest local and international street artists set in the cool, relaxed atmosphere of Rove Dubai Marina. In addition to street art displays, live workshops will offer guests lessons on spray painting and stencil skills as local UAE DJ’s play urban, hip-hop beats in the background.
For fans of customised, wearable art, there will be the opportunity to have all sorts of apparel – from t-shirts to trainers – emblazoned with unique designs. Guests simply have to bring their items and leave the rest to the expert artists. Limited-edition artwork will also be available to buy for those looking to pick up rare or exclusive pieces from across the UAE’s booming street art scene.
Guests of Urban Art DXB will also be able to take advantage of a range of F&B deals, including an all-day happy hour on select house beverages and a variety of food snacks.
Artists exhibiting at the inaugural Urban Art DXB include pure evil from the UK’s Vandalist Art gallery, which will display limited-edition prints and stencilled work from major international street art names. Enforce 1, Fink, i-Pot, Maddy Butcher, Rayaan and Stainz will also be exhibiting with further big local and international names set to be confirmed.
“Street Art was a popular feature at World Art Dubai earlier this year, so we were keen to build on that momentum and provide art fans and collectors with a targeted experience in the build-up to World Art Dubai 2020,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, DWTC.
“Our collaboration with Vandalist Art and continued partnership with Rove Hotels enhances World Art Dubai’s accessible focus for a plethora of art fans and collectors. This event will provide a hands-on experience for visitors and an entertaining weekend for all ages.”
Speaking about the upcoming partnership with World Art Dubai, Paul Bridger, Corporate Director of Operations at Rove Hotels, stated, “We are delighted to be renewing our partnership with World Art Dubai for Urban Art DXB. Our previous collaboration for the Emerging Artists Exhibition, earlier this year, was a huge success, so we’re looking forward to strengthening our participation through this event and World Art Dubai 2020.”
He added, “Providing local and international artists with an outlet to express their creativity, while promoting Dubai’s local art scene, is a long-term commitment for the Rove team. Through Urban Art DXB, we can continue to nurture the current crop of talented, local street artists and inspire younger generations to follow their creative passions.”
