Voices Of Future Generations And The Book Fairies Sprinkle Literary Treasure Around Expo 2020 And UAE
The child authors of Voices of Future Generations, the inspiring global writing competition for children, are becoming book fairies and sprinkling the magic of stories atExpo 2020 Dubai and in communities across UAE. Free books will be available at the thematic sustainability pavilion, Terra, on the 19th and 26th of March, as well as in community libraries across the seven Emirates throughout the Month of Reading.
The unique writing initiative, launched under the patronage of UNESCO in 2015 and brought to the Middle East in 2019, was created to promote sustainability awareness and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The regional competition is organised by the Emirates Literature Foundation on behalf of HH SheikhaHissa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Goodwill Ambassador for the initiative for the Middle East region.
Each book drop will be shared on the Voices of Future Generations Instagram account, with a clue to the location. Thesebook fairies will all be sharing copies of the book in which their own story appears, Young Voices of Arabia, an anthology of the winning stories from either the 2021 or the 2020 competition.
The idea of The Book Fairies is simple. It allows people to share a story they enjoyed as well as creating a nice surprise for whoever finds the book, spreading the love of reading and the message of sustainability at the same time. The finder of the book can read and enjoy the stories, and then either keep it or hide it for someone else to find.
The Voices of Future Generations competition is open to children aged 8-12, writing for children aged 6 and above. All entries must be between 600-1,500 words long, in Arabic or English. The stories should feature one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the writer’s hopes, dreams, or aspirations for a sustainable future. Entries are open to all children resident in theGulf region and in full-time education, including those home schooling. Registrations for the third year are now open and the competition will close in the first half of 2022.
