Moving to Dubai
I’m considering moving to Dubai in the next couple of months and am looking for general advice at this stage.? How easy is it to find work (I’m in HR), is it commonplace for employers to provide residency visa, etc?? Do I need my certificates (degree, etc) authenticated in advance?? What about driving licence (should I apply for an international one?)? Any help / advice would be much appreciated.? Any good websites / books I should research?

Welcome to Dubai!!!

I moved from Australia to Bahrain but I secured a job before I left. I suggest you contact agents before leaving home. Email me if you need some assistance. regards Michelle

Hi Eliza,
You need your qualifications attested by your government. Your employer will arrange your work and residency visa. Try bayt.com – internet cv system for work oppurtunities. My company uses them to find employees and it is better than the local papers. I think a UK liscence means you don’t have to do your driver’s liscence over again but you will have to get a UAE liscence.

You should get all your documents attested at the Embassy before you leave for Dubai. If you are coming to Dubai on a visit Visa then yes you will need a international license to rent a car.

Many thanks everyone for taking the time to offer advice. Unfortunately, having recently been dumped, my plans to join boyfriend in Dubai are now being re-thought somewhat!! However, I really do appreciate your help and, when I’ve finished crying into my beer, who knows – might just do it anyway! 🙂
